Welcome to part two on how to travel from between Maputo to Blantyre. Part one was mostly based on my personal experience unlike part two its based on recommendations and research.
Maputo – Tete – Blantyre
Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) flies from Maputo to Tete twice daily. Alternatively, Post Bus (Correios de Moçambique) also services this route once a week operates a bus from Maputo to Tete once daily. Tickets cost USD27 and the journey takes about 31 hours. Please be advised that in Mozambique buses are not allowed to operate between 22:00 – 05:00, so at night buses have to stop and park then continue the journey in the morning.
From Tete to Zobue Chapas (vans) regularly do this route and takes about 2-2.5 hours. From zobue to Mwanza you get a private taxi. At Mwanza after all immigration and customs clearance you can get a bus to Blantyre which is about 2 hours upto your final destination.
Maputo – Harare – Blantyre
From Maputo to Harare you are able to fly directly using LAM or get a connection through Johannesburg using Airlink or South African Airways.
From Harare to Blantyre there are daily direct buses by 3stars, triptrans and Kenergy from Roadport bus station to Wenela bus depot in Blantyre. Its costs USD20 and takes about 8 abouts.

- If you have visited any East African nation (Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Rwanda and Zambia) have your valid yellow fever certificate with you.
- Don’t change foreign currency with illegal money changers as they can easily scam you.
- Depending on your passport check visa requirements.
- The South African Rand is the most dominate currency that is exchangeable.
