Turtle Island

Turtle Islands are an exciting destination in Sierra Leone. Isolated islands, coconut trees, surreal sand bars, in one of the few truly remote places left in the world. Apart from the natural beauty and the serenity of the place, visitors will meet the culture of societies with minimal contact with the western world. An excursion to Turtle Islands will reveal the beauty and the secrets of this forgotten destination. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from November to April.

One of the most unique features of Turtle Islands is its diverse wildlife. As the name suggests, these islands are a nesting ground for sea turtles, providing a rare opportunity to witness these majestic creatures up close. From hatching to nesting, you can observe the entire life cycle of these endangered species.

These low-lying sandy islands have calm, pristine aqua and turquoise waters perfect for swimming and snorkeling, as well as beaches lined by palms and mangroves, perfect to explore and wander around independently. Tourists usually stay in Baki, a short distance from a local village – it’s possible to visit the community and learn about their way of life.
