Although Malawi looks very small on an atlas map. It’s quite an unexpectedly long journey . Taking a bus from the commercial city of Blantyre to the border town of Songwe. The journey takes about 15 hours covering a distance of about 950 kilometres using the M1 highway. Captain Tours bus company is only coach operating a direct service. It passes through Lilongwe, Mzuzu, Karonga, Kasungu, Mzimba, etc

Departure And Arrival
In Blantyre the boarding and departure point is at Clock Tower mall daily at 14:00 hours. Arrival time at Songwe border post is at 05:00 hours the following morning.
From Songwe border departure is at 11:00 hours in the morning and Arrival in Blantyre at 05:00 hours the following morning.

About Captain Tours
It’s a luxury coach operating within Malawi. There operate the Chinese bus make “zhong tong” powered by Cummins engines. All their buses have luxury amenities on board i.e

Alternative Bus

For a direct bus service there is no alternative. From Blantyre you can any other bus to Mzuzu or Karonga. To be abit specific from Mzuzu you might or might not get a mini bus to Songwe direct you may need to drop off in Karonga then get another minibus to Songwe. If you get a bus from Blantyre to Karonga, in Karonga you will get direct minibus to Songwe. It’s important to note that buses from wenela bus depot only depart when there are full not on scheduled time.
